July is typically the start of monsoon season and this year was no exception. Our 2nd Annual HOA meeting and BBQ took place on July 3rd at the Owner’s Cabin. The day was heavily accented by rain and wind but that did not deter us from enjoying the great food and social gathering… instead of sitting on lawn chairs in the grass, we gathered around the cabin fireplace! Around 5 pm, as the “party” ended, the clouds parted, the sun came out, and there was undoubtably a rainbow.
One of the best ways to witness the beauty and uniqueness of Gray Head is to hike to the top of Hawn Mountain. Pack a lunch and enjoy the 360 views while lounging on the stone chairs. The word is out so we have recently placed a few new signs at the trailheads to reduce liability and maintain privacy for Gray Head homeowners.
July is also the month for seeing the peak of San Juan wildflowers. This photo is from Yankee Boy Basin, an easy day trip and hike to experience the beauty. And keep your eyes peeled for wild turkey’s and big horn sheep… there have been sightings of both in Gray Head, near “Catmando”.
